Fly
mise en scene is a key part of making this short film effective in creating comedy and a sense of realism. for example, the drivers outfit which consists of a leather jacket, polo shirt, toothpick and a gold watch adds to the 80's aesthetic and cockney gangster vibe that the short film aspires for. This aesthetic is furthered by the old school beamer which eventually gets shot to a pulp. furthermore, there is juxtaposition with the rabbits foot the driver has as it historically has been a symbol of good luck however as we can see as the events of this short film transpires the very opposite happens. The props are also used to create comedy such as when the gangster attempts to shoot the fly. Furthermore, the masks of the other robbers create a moment of comedy as well as the expressions on the masks fit perfectly with what they are probably feeling which is disappointment and shame.
sound - sound plays a huge role in this short due to the lack of dialogue which would usually carry the short film. The only passage of dialogue is in the beginning of the short wherein one of the bank robbers states "right boys, 3 minutes, go go go!" this along with the sound of shotguns cocking immediately gives the audience understanding of the setting and what is going on. A key part of the diegetic sound in this short is the sound of a fly buzzing which is enhanced to not only show the effect it has on the already tense getaway driver but also to try and immerse the audience in the scene. Furthermore, we are kept alert of the robbery continuing inside the bank by brief flashes focusing on the door with the noises of the robbery coming out of it, this gives the audience a moment of relief away from the driver and the fly while still keeping the intensity expected of a bank robbery. Finally, we are met with some juxtaposition when we hear the faint noise of police sirens growing in the distance as the ending score is that of victory as if the robbery was successful.
