Tight Jeans

Tight Jeans (2008) is an 8 minute long short film, this involves three young men sitting on a brick wall waiting for their friend. A 'white boy' then walks past wearing skinny jeans which causes the other boys to question how can a boy wear jeans that tight causing a debate amongst the teens. This debate starts with them questioning the many aspects of race, gender and history. The effect of this short film is the talk of these aspects but with the use of comedy. These boys are very similar in what they say but there is a clear distinction in character, the similarity is seen through their friendship in one another.

mise en scene:

costume plays a very important role in this short film as it is what originally sparks the narrative and moves the plot forward. The short film begins with a speedy montage of a market where we are shown items of clothing being hung up and sold which hints to the audience that clothing is going to be an important part of the short film. The three characters all wear reasonably similar outfits containing baggy jeans, hoodies and trainers. It is clear that the boy in the red jumper is more confident in his personality, the boy in the blue jumper is more calm, the boy in the orange jumper makes references to history, and is very over exaggerated. The setting for this short film is a dull block which works to accentuate the bright colours the boys are wearing.
